Getting Old!!!

Phew!!! Just recovering from an ill thought out jaunt to Abercrombie on Fifth Avenue and 56th street.

What a nightmare!!!!!!!

I'm really not liking that store. It's jammed to the rafters with packs of twenty-something foreigners and tourists who either mill around aimlessly, or stand in the way of the door to ogle the half naked man having photos taken with shoppers [generally speaking I'm a brains over biceps type of girl, but lucky ol' me as Tel Aviv has both ;-)] or just generally get in the way of people like ME who only have an hour for lunch and are actually trying to buy something - that would be a t-shirt for my brother-in-law.

I was tempted to aim a swift kick at the ankles of a couple of them I don't mind admitting!!! Oh and the music, do they HAVE to play it that LOUD!!! I think I have perforated eardrums. Or spray so much cologne all over the place, less is more y'know Abercrombie and Fitchers, especially when it comes to perfume. When I finally stumbled out of the place - having struggled through the throngs to do one fruitless circuit of the store for the t-shirt - I smelled like a cheap gigolo!!

Huff!!!!!

I HATE that store. Thank God for internet shopping. I was tempted to boycott Abercrombie altogether after that experience, but that would mean having to think up another gift for my brother-in-law and Banana Republic/J Crew were offering up little in the way of inspiration for an easily postable gift under $50 that would be suitable for summer in Australia - my sister and family moved to Melbourne yesterday - so I pushed my integrity to one side and coughed up $8 in shipping for a dark red trapper's gorge tee to be shipped to the comfort of my office.

It was worth every penny, but I'm boycotting them from now on!! My integrity firmly back in place now that I've bought my gifts ;-)

P.S. I'll be finishing my final post on Chile as and when I can be bothered, I'm too busy with the Christmas prep right now. Bloggist prerogative ;-)

Hi, Fish!

Ouch! It's crazy when you go to a fully crammed store that smells like different kinds of cologne. I can't stand different kinds of smell in one place. It's too much to bear!

LOL!!! You smell like a cheap gigolo? HE HE HE HE HE...

And LOL about Tel Aviv's brain and brawn! ;-D YESSS!!! Macho mannn!!! *wink*

Your sister and family moved to Melbourne? Ohhh...such a long waaayyyy!!! I have an emailpal living in Melbourne though we've lost contact now. :-(((

GREAT to hear you've bought your gifts HE HE HE HE HE...

YAYYYYYY to integrity and your prerogative! ;-D It seems to me you're not the only busy one, though he he he...it's been kinda quieter these days in the blogosphere he he he...

HAVE FUN ice-skatiinnggg!!!!!!!!

Hi Amel, yes A&F is too much to bear, oh and actually let me just set the record straight, I have NO IDEA what a gigolo smells like, cheap or otherwise ;-)

Yes it will be a quiet Christmas, my sister, her hubby and my nephew have now moved to Melbourne. They lived there for 6months a few years ago. I'm hoping this time they stay long enough for me to squeeze in a visit. My Dad is already planning a tour of Australia in a camper van for Christmas 2008 :-)

Tel Aviv fancies himself as a bit of an Abercrombie guy I think. He has the abs for it, but unfortunately he's not one for ice-skating. Maybe I can convince a friend to go at the weekend.

Have a good one, F

Midtown during the holiday season is just the worst. I really, really hate it. I either buy my gifts downtown or online. Glad you survived, though. =+)

I sorry I'm from South Africa ... did you say that there was a half naked male model standing in the store? Seriously? Man, that's what I call advertising.

fishwithoutbicycle said...

Hi Ha Ha, unfortunately i work in midtown, close to Times Square, so there's no avoiding the tourists. I'm trying to minimise lunchtime errands at the moment tho' given the holiday shopping frenzy :-)

Hi Sid, yup a half naked man. You can see one in the photo I posted. Sometimes they are only wearing underwear. It's a standard Abercrombie ploy :-)

HA HA HA HA HA HA...Don't worry, I wasn't insinuating that you knew how gigolos smelled like...LOL!!!

I was just laughing 'coz you used that term while describing the way you smelled HI HI HI HI...

A tour of Aussie in a camper van? Sounds GREAT!!! ;-D Hope they stay long enough there then he he...

Yeah, hope you get to go ice-skating with a friend this weekend! I can't wait to go to my in-laws' again as usual he he he...

Oh, I know exactly how you feel about the crowd. Unfortunately I had to make 2 trips to the mall this week and felt so stressed up just walking through the sea of shoppers.

I was back at the mall this morning (but very early at 10.30am) when the shops were just opening. It was great shopping when there was hardly anyone around. Little did I know, there was an event where a pop-group was having a meet-the-fans session in the later part of the morning. The crowd swelled to great proportions and I made a quick retreat.

avoid physical shopping at all costs! scientists have proven it's bad for men's health and it certainly didn't do your blood pressure any good by the sounds of it!

i've just spent a very relaxing two hours with various cups of hot beverage shopping online for books for my family back home in england (not in my own apartment unfortunately, as i still don't have the internet!!!).

[insert choice here] bless the internet and all who sail in her.

Hi Blur Ting, you and are are of the same mold when it comes to shopping. If I HAVE to do it I go first thing when the shops are empty too :-)

Hi Flowers, I wholeheartedly agree. Internet shopping only from now on. Fish

A&F sounds like my kind of shop if they have half naked male models in store. I just cannot imagine the Schofield Centre in Leeds doing the same for some reason. They just have freaky clowns in the food hall to scare the kids (and people like me) witless...

fishwithoutbicycle said...

Hey Agnes, I know the Schofield's center all too well. I shall probably trot around the shops in there when I am home in a few weeks. Generally I prefer the festive feel of the Victorian Quarter, even though I would have to take out a second mortgage to afford any of the clothes in there :-)

I totally am with you.

Aside from all the chaos, their clothing is sized for toy dolls.

seriously.

my dog is too big for half of their clothes...

Hey Heather, thanks for stopping by. I 100% agree that A&F just isn't worth the hassle :-)
