Working for the (wo)man

It’s Friday!!!!!! I hope you all have lovely plans for the weekend. Me? Why, I’m so glad you asked. Unfortunately I think there is a good chance I’m going to be working. Sob!!

What’s that you say? Why will I be working? Three words for you…New. Business. Pitch!! Aaaaaaaaaaaarrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrggggggghhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh!!!

I love working on new biz pitches as you can tell. Seriously kids, it’s a chuffing nightmare. As usual I was pulled in at the last minute, 5pm on Wednesday, and asked to ‘pull something simple together’ for a meeting with the Crazy Lady/Big Cheese/Company President today. Yesterday my nose was pressed so firmly to the grindstone I swear it has a flattened appearance today.

There's a team meeting with Crazy Lady at 1pm today when we'll gather for her input. The meeting will no doubt get pushed back to 3pm, then to 5pm, and then....well we'll finally see her at 6.30pm or something and then we’ll have to stick around for 2-3hours while she tears through the deck making revisions. No doubt the team will have to come in and work a minimum 14hour day over the weekend to prepare for the pitch early next week. Joy!!

Other than that I may be seeing Tel Aviv tonight - depending on how late I have to stay at the office - and then tomorrow I am going out to get drunk with Melissa. I’m very much looking forward to the drinking part. Tel Aviv doesn't drink you see (I know, shocking isn’t it!!) and I am of Irish ancestry, so this teetotal dating business is taking it's toll...well I say teetotal, I always have one glass of wine with dinner, but so far I've steered clear of ordering a second. Not that he nags me, but you know how it is when you date someone that doesn't drink, I don't want to show myself as the lush I truly am quite so early on in the relationship.

I don't know what it is about dating a non-drinker, but having to consider my intake around him makes me want to drink more. If my relationship with Tel Aviv works out I fear I'll end up an alcoholic.

Oh no! work on a weekend? Blasphemy! (actual, one benefit to my impending doom, er, foot surgery is I won't be able to teach my Saturday class, I need a break)

I shall have to enjoy the sunshine for the both of us then. I'm thinking Coney Island or other touristy trap type place for some clouded sunshine and 'fresh' NYC air.

Foot surgery Victorya!! Yikes!! Good luck with that. And yes, please take in some lovely 'fresh' NYC air for the both of us :-) Have a great weekend. F

LOL! Great post. I don't think I ever dated a non-drinker, but I do have friends who don't drink. I totally agree -- once they leave, I want to reach for a cold one. Weird.

Hey Barb, glad you liked the post. I've dated 2 non-drinkers - I am not sure why they're attracted to me, perhaps someone is trying to tell me something - one was in AA and this one just doesn't like alcohol. I'm by no means a heavy drinker - for the most part it's a couple of glasses at the weekend, or a glass if I am out to dinner, but these days I'm so hyper aware of Tel Aviv not drinking that I'm craving wine ALL THE TIME ;-)

I also have some French ancestry mixed in with the Irish so it's definitely in my blood and I've no intention of stopping for Tel Aviv ;-)

Have a great weekend. F

Oh dear, Fish...you have to work still during the weekend? SO SO SO SORRY to hear that.

So Tel Aviv doesn't drink, eh? Ahhhh...well, have a blast with him and then with Melissa then no matter what! ;-D

Sorry to hear you have to work this weekend. That sucks. You should definitely meet up with Tel Aviv. If you're going to be stuck in the office, at least let some booze and nooky take the edge off. =+)

And I know what you mean about being around a non-drinker making you want to drink more. My last serious ex was a vegan, and it made me want to eat more eat than I think I would've normally. Weird, eh?

Hi Amel, Ha Ha Sound, thanks for the support. The team just took a beating in the meeting with the Prez. It's weekend working all the way, but will have my fun tonight. I'm meeting Tel Aviv at 7pm and taking him promptly to the nearest liquor store ;-)

Oh poor you... what a PAIN! And I am the same way around non-drinkers... and vegetarians. Bring on the booze and MEAT! It's my naughty inner self, I guess.

Sorry to hear you have to work over the weekend. That sucks, FWB.

Don't fret about not drinking in front of Tel Aviv. I don't drink any more either (despite what my blog might intimate!), but I absolutely love other people drinking around me. It means I can rib the hell out of them next day when they have been so sh*t-faced they can't remember anything and I can elaborate wickedly!

Working on the weekend is never a good thing - I have to do it on a regular basis and am usually quite grumpy about it!

I've never dated a non-drinker but, like paper fan club, have a couple of friends that don't drink. They never mind me drinking around them so I just carry on as usual!

Thanks for the support everyone. It really helps to read your comments while I am stuck in the office at the weekend. I hope you are all having a lovely time of it.

Missladybug, wow, thank you soooooo much for the award. You've made my day :-)

lordy lordy. i know exactly what you speak of: the "simple business pitch" that's about as simple and un-complicated as brain surgery.

I also know what you mean about the drinking. April doesn't really drink at all. If she takes a sip of my margarita (my 5th of the night) I'm shocked.

I keep telling her she'll bowl and putt-putt better after a libation, but she just thinks I'm trying to get lucky....

Oh - I just can't deal with non-drinking dates! It is not only that I feel very uncomfortable being forced into the position of either drinking alone (or not having any wine with dinner) - but more so, it just makes me wonder about their past? Were they nutso alchoholics who used to sleep on park benches because they couldn't remember where they lived at the end of a bender? Did they have stashes of mini-liquor bottles all over the house? Or they could even be - gasp - religious fanatics.....who are only pretending to be non-judgemental now, but wait!!! Hmmmm....yes, the "hold the alcohol" guys are definitely a type that give me pause. Careful, fish! I mean....even best case scenario here - what would you toast each other with if you ended up getting married? Sparkling apple cider? OK....I'm getting way, way ahead of myself! There are definitely worse traits in a man than not drinking, for sure. :-)

Hi Kitty, thanks for stopping by. I appreciate the tag, but I'm not much of a one for memes. I hope you don't mind. I'll take a look though and see if this one peaks my interest ;-) Best, F

Heather - yes there is no such thing as a simple new business pitch ;-) I think new business pitches are primarily why I drink ha ha. I had to laugh at the visual I had of you drunkenly trying to coerce April into a sip of your 5th margarita. Cute!!

Britt - so far so good with Tel Aviv. He is happy for me to go to a wine bar and have a cheeky one. His friends all drink so he admits that he is the odd one out. He's actually enjoyed a sip of a Burgundy I was drinking, so there's hope for him yet ;-)
