There’s a spy in our midst

Tel Aviv cottoned on to the fact that I have a blog some time ago. We were having a conversation about whether our jobs were fulfilling – Tel Aviv LOVES his job – and I admitted that my job doesn’t really do it for me. However instead of thinking about retraining to do something else, I focus on using my spare time, limited though that is at the moment, to focus on more fulfilling pursuits.

“Like what,” he asked.
“Well I like to write and I salsa dance.”
“You write? Do you have a blog?”
“Um…yes I do”
“What’s it about?”
“It’s all about me” I responded with a laugh.
“Can I read it?”
“Not just yet. I’ll let you read it when I know you better.”
“Am I in it?”
“Well…sort of. I reference you, but not really. I don’t tend to talk about who I am dating, so at best you’re a peripheral character”
“Peripheral? But I WANT you to write about ME”
“Oh!”

Not the reaction I was expecting. In fact I’ve generally been led to believe by various bits of dating advice that letting the cat out of the bag about your blog is the kiss of death to most relationships, clearly not in Tel Aviv’s case.

That conversation occurred about a month ago and since then there’s been an occasional request from Tel Aviv to see my blog, but I’ve always batted his requests away and told him I’d share the link with him when I was good and ready. He changed tack recently and asked if I would at least share something I’d written with him. I kind of suspected where this was heading, but this week I pasted a copy of a post into an email and sent it to him.

Today I was looking at the Google Analytics tracking of my blog and noticed a visitor who searched on the term:

"I've been biting my tongue and trying to be patient, but i was definitely getting bored of"

A line from my very first post, the very same post I emailed to a certain someone earlier this week. This same visitor spent a whopping 37minutes reading my blog.

Hmmmm. How very curious. Who on earth could it be?

Tel Aviv you are SOOOOOO BUSTED!!!

Although I can’t say I didn’t totally expect he’d resort to these sneaky tactics. I would have done the same. Good thing I’ve switched on the comments moderation ;-)

For God's sake, Fish, don't mention that threesome you had a few nights ago with Jonny Depp and George Clooney - Tel Aviv, if he's the jealous type, may not see it for the fun fling it was...

oh no! i hope this doesn't lead to you self-moderating the content!!!

don't go changing!

Hey Agnes, no worries, I'm definitely going to be keeping my lips zipped about Johnny and George. Sshhhh ;-)

Hey Flowers, don't worry, there'll be absolutely no content moderation :-)

You seem to have handled it well. I'd totally freak out if any of the romantic interests I've written about found my blog.

So, what was the reaction? Inquiring minds want to know. =+)

Hey Ha Ha, to be honest I'm not too fussed about it, since I suspected he'd Google a sentence from the blog posting I pasted into an email when he asked me to share something I'd written. He's been pestering me to share my blog URL with him on and off for a while now.

Tel Aviv thinks it's hilarious and wants me to write more about him, but it's not my style to go into too much detail about current relationships. Of course, if we stop dating all bets are off ;-)

Thankyou for introducing me to Google Analytics. For a naturally nosey guy like me, it's pretty darn good at tracking how people find you.

Also, awesome blog. I'm a regular reader hehe.

Hey Noah, thanks for stopping by, I'm thrilled you are a regular reader and thrilled to read on your blog that you are currently in LEEDS!!! I love LEEDS, I grew up 10miles from there. I used to love popping into Whitelocks tavern of a Saturday night ;-) Fish

You got caught!

No having a blog does not mean the kiss of death for a relationship. For me it was the start of the relationship with my Viking. We got to know each other through our writing and we took it from there. He tends not to blog about me, I just blog about stuff we've done together...ummm....no, not in a Girl-with-a-one-track-mind kind of way.

Tel Aviv sounds cute. While I'm not buying a hat just yet, I've got my fingers crossed for you. :-)

Hey Roses, yes I got caught, but I kind of let it happen, since I suspected he'd Google phrases from the post and find my blog :-)

That's great about you and your Viking. Thanks for the well wishes, Fish

It would have far too tempting for him once he'd got a phrase to search with!

Glad he liked it. I know that one of the reactions I get when people find out I blog is "Am I in it?" and if I say they're not, then they want to be in it!

Oh, and, Hi Tel Aviv!

This is why I don't date men who speak English, or have a computer, or who talk at all....ever.

Communication in a relationship is so much easier when it's all about me!

Which is what I was telling the last guy I dated....10 years ago.

Huh.

At any rate, sounds like you didn't hide and he didn't run. That's awfully encouraging!

Hi Alcoment, Tel Aviv will get a kick out of you saying hi. I think he fancies himself as a minor internet celebrity ;-)

Hello Mr. Curmudgeon, I can see the benefits of your approach. The disadvantage to my approach is that for a while I'll have to put up with TA asking me if I've written a post about him yet and if not, why not :-)

HA HA HA HA HA...oh dear...

Tel Aviv, welcome hi hi hi hi hi...

You're SO funny, Fish!!! ;-D By the way, it's funny that he wants you to write about him hi hi hi...

fishwithoutbicycle said...

Hi Amel, hope you had a great trip. I find it funny that Tel Aviv wants me to write about him too. I've told him he has to inspire me ;-)

GOOD answer to Tel Aviv's wish, Fish!!! OK, I'm off to bed now. Hopefully tomorrow I can write everything...if not everything, then half. I'm SOOOOO tired he he he...

Sleep well Amel :-)

I wouldn't be too worried, unless a blog titled 'bicycle w/out fish' pops up to tell 'the other side' of the tales.

Of course, now you can have fun writing about everything but :)

sounds like a good guy, that tel aviv.

Actually you really learn so much more about a person through the blog. I don't see my brothers and friends very much but they know what's going on in my life now, right down to what I ate for breakfast!
