Under pressure

Kind of a cheesy title given who featured in my dream last night, but oh so true. I'm tired, so very very tired. I started working on a new client last week - my 5th, can I possibly add value consulting on FIVE clients. Hmmm!!! - and my week has been full of back to back meetings, I only ever seem to have an hour free to actually spend on work between the hours of 9am and 6pm and as for lunch...forget it. I'm working late to get things done and then responding to my emails via Blackberry when I get home :-(

I think the pressure is getting to me, I had the weirdest dream last night. David Bowie was running our department. He was a shorter, fatter version of himself - not such a thin white duke - but it was definitely him. He wore the same outfit to work everyday, an off-white suit with a white v-neck t-shirt underneath, topped off with an off-white trilby. He also carried a bamboo cane. I'm not sure why, but Mr. Bowie was hired to rescue us (us being the company), I'm not sure what from, the looming/current recession perhaps??? We had about 20 layoffs yesterday, no-one I have ever come into contact with, but still I hate to hear about that and I feel for the people who received the bad news. My friend Ariel was also recently laid off from her job, so that's also been on my mind. It was a very vivid dream that was only broken by my alarm going off at 6.30am. I was so disoriented when I woke up that I had to think back to what I'd watched on TV last night to work out what day it was - embarrassingly I'd watched 'The Real Housewives of New York City' - I honestly don't have the brain power for anything more intelligent at the moment and I love to hate those vapid women - so I knew today must be Wednesday.

Anyway I'm going to leave you with a musical interlude. I just heard this song for the first time on Radio1 and I quite liked it. It's called "We Cry" by The Script. Cue cliched video of band members looking sensitive and moody in what appears to be Brooklyn.

I am sadly and embarrassingly addicted to the NYC Housewives too. Oh dear!

Is Ramona insane or what? The slightly tweaked look in her eye when Simon showed up. I hooted out loud. I like these women in a strange way for their unabashed opinions.

You must really be stressed out for dreaming about work. Yipes. I'd say to scale it back a wee bit, if you possibly can, though I'm sure the layoffs just make it worse. :-/

There must be something in the air, because Tuesday night I had the most bizarre dreams, as well!

Were the layoffs real? Or part of the dream?

Hi Kitty, I think there are more than a few somewhat secret NYC Housewives fans out there given the number of people that I hear talking about it at work :-)

Ramona is seriously strange, it wouldn't surprise me if she had a medical condition, she's hyped up and intense all the time, or maybe that's just the way they edit it.

Unfortunately I don't think scaling back is feasible, we are trying to hire, but we have such a problem finding people given we need people with maths skills. No-one takes maths degrees these days, but hopefully once I get up to speed on my new client it should get easier. I'm just facing a learning curve right now.

Hi Spandrel, did you post about your dream? I think the meaning of mine was clear, but it's the David Bowie thing I can't quite work out ;-)

Unfortunately the layoffs were for real :-(

Hey, Fish. Very sorry to hear about the layoffs - that's always so difficult to work through. Hope things are OK in your area.

And yes, I posted a little something about my dream - focusing more on the interpretation than the dream itself.

Sorry to hear about the layoffs. :-(((

Quite a strange dream. I also had a very weird dream yesterday. I was holding a chopped-off man's p**** in my hand. So scary, isn't it? HE HE hE HE HE...

LOVE your song choices as usual and as usual I've never heard them before.

It's been snowing the whole day today, you know? Spring is postponing its arrival, I presume HA HA HA HA...

Hi Amel, oooh that dream was a bit gruesome eh. Did it make your hubby nervous when you told him? ;-)

Sorry to hear about the delay to your spring. We've had a couple of warm days recently and all the tress are blossoming, so it's very pretty here, but it's not as warm as I would like at 52F ;-)

Oh wow, we keep reading about the recession in the US. It's sad to hear people being laid off, unless they get a really good golden handshake of course.

Your job seems stressful.I often wonder how one can sit through so many meetings day after day. I, for one, am so grateful my life doesn't revolve around meetings. Well, at least your friends are here visiting, maybe that'll make your week a little brighter!

Hi Blur Ting, to be honest I frequently question how I can sit through so many meetings day after day since after the meetings I still have to do the work. It's tiring. I am liking the idea of winning the lottery a lot this week ;-)

No, he didn't get scared, but it was enough to make him look confused HA HA HA HA HA HA...

Well, today has been sunny all day and it went up to plus 4'C HE HE HE HE HE...So it's allright. ;-D
