At least I get to listen to the radio at work

I’ve not had much time to post this week, we’re all busy at the office trying to ensure a smooth handover of the client work from the soon to be former head of department to the new head of department who is…drum roll please….my current manager. Yup, they promoted internally.

People keep trying to coerce me into taking on new clients, but I already look after 4 of them and I’m 150% booked which guarantees me having to work a 60hour week, so if I hear “oh but couldn’t you just squeeze this client in?” one more time I won’t be responsible for my actions.

To rub salt in the wound I just passed the elevator bank and there was a pile of people waiting to leave. It’s 5.30pm; I’ll be here at least another couple of hours yet. I wonder what jobs they all have. I wouldn’t mind me one of those.

So yes, my manager – who is admittedly very good – is the new big cheese. He now has a prestigious new role with lots of new responsibilities, some of which I am sure will trickle down to me, and lots more money I am sure, none of which will trickle down to me.

My oh my I just LOVE my job, but not nearly as much as I love this new Hot Chip tune ;-)

I used to listen to NPR quite a bit. I figured that at least I was getting myself edumacated, hehe.

My absolute favorite station is wfmu. You can listen to archived shows at www.wfmu.org. The 'talk' show Seven Second Delay (on Wednesdays) is pretty funny. One of the guys is the station manager, and the other created the tv show Monk. I'm not sure who's the grown-up and who's the side kick.

Sorry you're working so much, Fish. I know the feeling. It's fine sometimes, but really no fun when you're not in the mood, or you're tired, or you're sick, or a lot of other things. Being obligated to do something sucks.

Do take care of yourself during this time! Have yourself a nice dinner and a bubble bath.

Ok, that video kinda scared me! Those models, the black and white...I might have nightmares now.

You NEED to check out Pandora! www.pandora.com if you don't want to figure it out visit my blog and click on Music to read about it. I LOVE It and it will make your life pleasantly ...pleasant?

Hope at least some of that money trickles to you.

Hi Sassy, yeah I listen to Pandora on occasion, but sometimes the genome is a bit iffy and I quite like catching up on the Brit chat on Radio1, but Pandora is great for finding new music. Have a great weekend!!

Ahhh...office politics. So your manager and another guy took it over so smoothly, eh?

Sorry to hear about having to work overtime. Yeah, Fish, show your fangs and claws if other people try to ask you to handle more and more clients. GRAAAWWRRRR!!! Don't mess with moi!!!!

P.S. Now I know why you listen to so much music at work HE HE HE HE HE...

Hi Amel, yes, they took it over a little too smoothly, it lent a little more credence to the theory that the other guy was pushed out.

I'm definitely learning how to say no to more work at the moment :-)

Have a great weekend,
Fish x

funny how work loads shift down the food chain but the praise - actually forget praise...i mean money - rarely does.

everyday in everyway i'm glad that i left the world of finance. now it's just the occassional twinge in my memory.

stay strong, fish! and ask yourself 'are those people who leave early reeeally having fun?'

the answer's almost certainly yes but i hope the music distracts you from that thought ;)

stay well

As another single British woman living in NYC (though no longer in my 30's) I just had to pop and give a sista support.

And yes, being paid to blog is my dream job too!

More responsibilities, no extra cash? Sounds very much like my job. God I can could do with a good holiday, right about now.

Hi Genius, the support is very much appreciated from a fellow Brit. Let's both keep our fingers crossed for that dream job :-)

Hi Sid, I hear you. Good luck getting a holiday soon. Fish
