Not the most productive of days

I’d intended to post about my long weekend yesterday, but the day got away from me and I never quite got around to it. I arrived in work to the somewhat surprising news that our head of department had resigned after almost a decade with the company.

I say somewhat surprising because something had definitely been brewing over the last few months and it wasn’t long before speculative emails on whether he’d jumped or whether he was pushed started arriving in my inbox. A certain senior staff member hadn’t been acting too favourably towards him recently, so most people seem to think there was at the very least a nudge towards the door, especially since he’s heading to a competitor that hasn’t been performing too well in the last couple of years, so not somewhere you would necessarily choose given the option, but who knows. We’re all on tenterhooks now waiting to find out what the plan to replace him is.

Then in the afternoon we were again abuzz with the shocking news that 28year old Heath Ledger had been found dead in his apartment downtown.

Unbelievably sad!!

As I mentioned in the title, yesterday was not the most productive of work days.

wow, i have the same sort of non-productive days but they're mainly because I'm reading blogs ACK!

Ha ha, yeah I do that too, but keep that quiet okay ;-) Thanks for stopping by.

Anytime someone leaves or even thinks of leaving, it's disruptive.

The news about Heath zipped around our office like quickfire yesterday afternoon. It's startling because in his interviews, he looks so alive. He was so young!

hope you're well, Fish.
It's sunny today! hooray!!

Hi Kitty, yes the rumour mill is grinding to life :-)

It really is incredibly sad about Heath Ledger. It's all a bit surreal.

So does this affect the restructuring that you've been saying might possibly happen, or do you still not know what the score is with that one?

Does Tel Aviv read this blog by the way? If he does, surely he should have been guilted into contact by now?! I think you're possibly better off without him...

Hi Dylan, the restructuring happened, we had 60 layoffs the other week and possibly more to come, but it didn't really affect many people I knew, so I haven't seen much of an impact.

Tel Aviv used to read this blog on occasion, but I haven't seen any sign in my tracking that he's visited recently. Of course he could be stopping by anonymously :-)

Yeah, everybody was talking about Heath Ledger here too. Kind of crazy how this spread like wildfire. I feel most badly for his young daughter and his ex-wife, who now has to raise their baby alone.

Hi Feinsodville, yes it's so incredibly sad that his daughter will never really know her father. Thanks for stopping by. Fish

It wasn't a productive day for me too. It's so sad to see a young talent die so early, and an old colleague leave unceremoniously.

Hi Blur Ting, yes it seems like such a waste to lose someone so young.

As far as my colleague is concerned I'm hoping he made the right decision as I have my suspicions he was pushed into it. Thanks for stopping by :-)

I wonder if it was suicide ... I honestly didn't expect HIM to commit suicide. Britney yes BUT him?

Ahhhh...shocking, shocking indeed!!! Keep us updated about the office news.

And yeah, I was surprised to hear about Heath. He's younger than me!!! Tsk tsk tsk...

Hi Sid, it would surprise me if it was suicide, but then what would I know I never knew him personally.

Hi Amel, yes it was a strange day for news in our office. My manager has been promoted to co-run the department with another guy. They did it so fast there wasn't even a thought of finding someone externally so we all feel this adds credence to the 'he was pushed out' theory, but we'll probably never really know.
